Session 2 notes
Finally, after three sessions and about two months since the initial idea of playing Dungeons and Dragons as a group became an option, we have finally had our session 1. A session where all four party members, and a dungeon master, came together in one room, and played D&D for four hours.
There was still a person, Tim, whom Andrew and I hadn’t met yet. But he was there, and ready to go. Tim is playing an Echo Fighter, which is a character he had in the last campaign played by Jessey. I guess they only had a few sessions before that campaign fell through, so he kept his levels. I think he’s at 6. SO still a bit over powered compared to the rest of us at level 3, but still, it happened.
Overall it was a pretty solid first session. O felt like last week I found myself unsure what to do with my character. I think I was still in the session 0 mode, thinking about my character as a concept instead of a real character ready to go. I also didn’t have my character sheet printed out, I like to use DNDbeyond to make my characters and then either print out the character sheet- which I like because it looks clean. Or to then hand write it out onto an empty character sheet. I like to use a pen when I do that, so every time I level up I would nee to do it again. Overall, I like having a clean looking character sheet.
I digress, onto the session notes.
In the late afternoon, we run into Soren, who’s been around town looking for us. She heard that we had recently dealt with a Banderhobb and needs some assistance herself.
She’s been tasked with putting to rest Julien St. Clair, a wealthy aristocrat. The St. Clairs are a wealthy familiy of aristocrats. Julien was into art and moved to Chult to become an artist. After a short career in which he created one famous painting of a cubist stegosaurus, he moved back into town. Julien has begun taking part in lavish parties on his estate, exploiting the lower class people in the process. Many of those people have now been missing. Lastly, his family owns a lot of the cropper farms in town as well.
After learning this, and speaking with Soren about her experience with trying to put the ghost to rest beside herself, I believe we are dealing with a Shadow of some sort. One that will sap your strength when it attacks.
Soren and I head out to where the crypt is located, trying to see if there’s anything new to learn about what is going on. I, using detect magic, locate a gravy that seems questionable. It is a little further away from the crypt entrance but still.
We come back that night with shovels, and attempt to entr throught he top by the gravestone I located with magical properties. Fearing we may dig too deep and cause an avalanche into the crypt we stop.
We wait for daylight before heading down into the crypt.
Three shadows immediately attack us once we enter the first room. We take them out easily enough, and proceed into the next area.
This entire time we are down here we notice that the walls are lined from floor to ceiling with corpses of the St. Clair family. The poor ones tend to be nearer the entrance with the wealthy ones further in the back.
We find a room that has two globes in the center of it, with a bronze plate attached to the wall opposite the one we entered in from. The globes are there to protect the living, keeping the spirits in the crypt at bay. The plate reads, “Only a St. Clair can enter.” There is also a hand shaped indention into the plate.
Knowing that Julien has family still alive in town we disregard that thought and instead I use my mage hand to pick up a corpse hand and use it on the plate. The wall and that half of the floor twist, to show a secret room where a corpse is laying on a pedistal of sorts.
Soren believes this to be the person she was looking to lay to rest, and takes out a bag of dust. She is spouse to lay this dust onto the corpse and that will prove she did her duty. I mage hand the dust over the corpse, but nothign happens.
Soren walks up to the corpse, and the secret door turns back away. Luckily Soren is an echo knight and is able to switch places with her echo who is still beside us.
And that is where we left off. A bit of a cliff hanger, especially since we are now waiting 3 weeks before the next session. I have a wedding next week, a conference the week after, and then the DM has an event the weekend after that. So it will be a while before another update, but they are coming.
