Session 2 notes

Finally, after three sessions and about two months since the initial idea of playing Dungeons and Dragons as a group became an option, we have finally had our session 1. A session where all four party members, and a dungeon master, came together in one room, and played D&D for four hours. There was still a person, Tim, whom Andrew and I hadn’t met yet. But he was there, and ready to go. Tim is playing an Echo Fighter, which is a character he had in the last campaign played by Jessey. I guess they only had a few sessions before that campaign fell through, so he kept his levels. I think he’s at 6. SO still a bit over powered compared to the rest of us at level 3, but still, it happened. Overall it was a pretty solid first session. O felt like last week I found myself unsure what to do with my character. I think I was still in the session 0 mode, thinking about my character as a concept instead of a real character ready to go. I also didn’t have my character sheet printed out, I like ...

Not a lot of notes on this initial campaign notes. Jessey decided he wanted the group to know each other before beginning, so he rolled on the backgrounds table to try and force some ideas on how we came to be a group. Personally, I had most of my back story prepared. Early on Harry was an apprentice to a local wizard who was seen as the town’s guardian. One day some high end bandits come to town and end up getting Harry’s wizard guardian killed. Harry, gets ahold of the wizard’s spell book and is able ot drive them off. He then sets out to learn as much as he can in order to protect those who can’t protect themselves, and that’s Harry’s story. Jessey came up with a few background details. Shared backgrounds: A Male, lawful evil dragonborn monk named Hirrathak Mystan has gone missing. We have some connection to him. Stephen and Andrew like the idea that he was a master at their initial dojo. We committed a crime, burglary, at some point. We did commit the crime, but were found not guil...

Why play wizard?

Having not played in what I think of as a “real” campaign for years, I wasn’t sure what character I wanted to play as. Initially, I thought about what classes I don’t know much about, or haven’t played before. That means almost all the caster classes were available. The craziest I ever got was a ranger, and then I was almost exclusively martial fighting. I thought Paladin would be cool; they seem very powerful. I don’t feel the need to play a super powerful character, so I thought Monk. Monk is something I know next to nothing about, and it was a class that I don’t think anyone has ever played as. If they had, it was never for long enough to see them in any real action. I got to this one shot. Really it’s my DM Jessey, he’s wanting to make sure we’re not all creepy and that everyone gels well together, or at least well enough that we can all play along. Besides Jessey is Andrew, a early 20s guy who has played a decent amount of 5E, Most of it came from the 2014 rules, this is his first...

I'm playing D&D

I’ve always been into the idea of playing Dungeons and Dragons. I haven’t always had the best luck finding others to play with. I recall my first time trying to play Dungeons and Dragons being a letdown. I was in fourth, maybe fifth grade. Sarah, the neighbor in my apartment complex up the street, had an older brother, Dustin. Looking back, for the younger kids like me, he was seen as cool, as someone his age, he was probably seen as the kid who hides in the girls' locker room, hoping those peepholes in the shower were a real thing. I say that as a guy who has probably had that said about him from time to time. I say I remember the first time I tried to play because we did not get very far in this endeavor. One day my brother Royce and I went over to Sarah’s house. Her brother Dustin was there, and he decided that he had found his group. At the outset, this had to look like a foolproof plan. Finally, this guy, who had in all likelihood been reading about Dungeons and Dragons for ...
